Our Philosophy - Love, Care, Dignity & Respect

We believe that dogs have feelings and needs that are just as important as our feelings and needs. While they are animals and not humans, they get sad, happy, lonely, afraid, tired, hungry, thirsty, cold and sick just like we do.  They thrive when placed on a daily routine that meets all their needs including love and attention, rules and boundaries, training, exercise and quality nutrition.

All of our dogs are very loved and are treated with caring, dignity and respect.  We use positive training techniques, care about and consider them as we care about and consider any other valued member of our family.  We ensure they get plenty of individual attention.

Our Philosophy - Love and Training

We believe that training forms a wonderful bond between the owner and the pup and makes for a wonderful, happy, fulfilling, rewarding, long lasting close relationship between man-woman-child and our K9-puppy-adult-family members. Our pups training starts at 8 weeks in manners and basic obedience in preparation for good neighbor (citizen in the US) and temperament testing.  They will each go on to compete in the show ring, obedience, agility, tracking or schutzund which combines (agility, tracking, obedience, protection and endurance) in order to bring out the best qualities and to improve not only our relationship and bond but also the quality of their pups.

For the New Puppy Owner

Many new puppy owners now take their dogs to manners and obedience training after the pup has received his/her second shots to start the process of having a well trained dog.  Classes are usually one hour once per week for 8 weeks.  The average cost of $130.00 can vary with approximately 15 minutes per day practicing at home along with incorporating what you learned in every day life with your pup.

These classes benefit both the owner and the pup and continue the socialization process with strangers, animals and of course improve the communication and bond between the puppy and owner.  They are also a great opportunity to have a professional trainer assist with any concerns you have.

Because the German Shepherd is so smart and versatile and needs to feel like part of the family, others like to go on with further training or competition which brings more quality time and even closer bond and mutual understanding.

Should you decide to compete your dog in the show ring, obedience, tracking, agility, schutzund, flyball or want to get involved with pet therapy or search and rescue or any other area, or just wish to have a well trained companion dog or information about these, we will be glad to provide advice and assistance and can make recommendations for training and dog clubs.

Our Philosophy - Love and Exercise

We are firm believers in giving our dogs lots of love and exercise.  An exercised dog is a Happy Dog!  Dogs who are exercised regularly are better behaved and calmer at home and have a better bond with their owners.

Our dogs love playing ball, retrieving articles, and most especially love their long walks, runs with roller blades, and bike rides in the city and in the country.  Playing and training in parks, on trails, in fields, wherever we go.  They even love the lake where we burn off extra energy teaching them to swim or playing in the water.

Our Philosophy - Love and Socialization

We socialize our german shepherds in every conceivable environment to help them have excellent temperaments and to be confident, fearless, stable and accepting in any given situation.

All our dogs are regularly taken for walks and car rides both together and individually, to expose them to strangers, children of all ages, to crowded areas, noisy busy streets, other dogs, small animals, ducks, cattle. bikes, skateboards, roller blades, buses, loud trucks, noisy machinery, lawn mowers, shovels, blenders, blow dryers and exposed to boats, the water at lakes, pools, sprinklers, and taught to swim.  You will see these scenarios in the photos throughout this site.

Our Philosophy - Love and Education

At Gallant Edge German Shepherds we believe that prospective buyers of our puppies or adult dogs should be informed and educated about finding a reputable breeder, proper care, training, nutrition, to assist with raising your pet.  Informed pet owners care about their dogs and keep them for life.  We ask you to be an educated dog owner because we care about the future emotional and physical welfare of our pups.

Before making your decision to purchase a pup, please be sure you are ready for the investment of your love, time, companionship, care, finances, appropriate medical treatment and proper nourishment for your pup.

Our puppies/adult dogs should be considered a valued life long member of your family.  We do not want any of our pups to need rescue, but to go to loving responsible life long homes.  We provide puppies/adult dogs only to those we believe are ready for this commitment - they will depend on you for life! For their life! And for their quality of life!
